July 31, 2020

Temporary change for access to the hospital from the College of Medicine – Tucson: no direct access from the south entrance to the north end of the corridor on the second floor from Aug. 1 through Sept. 11. All traffic will be routed to the fourth floor via the main elevators.

March 13, 2020

This Saturday, March 14, a boom will be placed on the south side of the HSIB for most of the day. This will restrict the sidewalk between HSIB and MRB, but there will be access through the area.

March 6, 2020

The Drachman Circle on the west side of the UAHS campus will be restricted this Saturday so that a boom lift can be placed adjacent to the HSIB. Vehicles will not be able to make a full turn around the circle. The sidewalk between HSIB and Skaggs Pharmacy will be restricted as well. The restriction will be in place most of the day.

March 2, 2020

March 9: Skaggs Building Addition and Renovations project team will bring in a crane to load equipment on the roof of the building. The crane will be placed on the sidewalk at the southeast corner of the building for a few hours in the morning of Monday, March 9th. For safety reasons, pedestrians will be detoured around the spot between the Pharmacy, Nursing and the Drachman buildings.

January 27, 2020

Please be advised there will be a crane put in place at the top of the circle drive in front of the old hospital entrance on Tuesday, for one day only. Half of the circle drive will be closed to traffic. The remainder of the circle will be two-way traffic for that day only.

December 6, 2019

Beginning on Saturday, Dec. 7, a sidewalk along the east side of the Skaggs building and a staircase on the south side of the building will be demolished. This work will take place inside of the construction fence, but the noise associated with it will be heard in the area. We apologize for the inconvenience. The demolition will take approximately three weeks.

Banner Construction on 2nd Floor - Detour to Cafeteria. Please be aware that Banner University Hospital - Tucson has temporarily closed the north end of the 2nd floor in order to complete a flooring project. This closure will be in place until Friday, Dec. 13. To access the cafeteria from the College of Medicine during this project, please take an elevator to the 4th floor and then follow the detour signs to the Tower 1 elevator. You can then take the Tower 1 elevator to the 1st floor and proceed to the cafeteria.

The Health Sciences Innovation Building (HSIB) is currently considered an active construction site and, for the safety of all, no unauthorized persons should be entering or walking through the building unaccompanied. Certain, specific events have been allowed by the contractor prior to the official opening. Attendees of any event should remain in the vicinity of the designated event space.

Sunday – Thursday nights from 8 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. for 3 weeks through the end of November: work will take place on the north and east sides of the building. Drachman Street, east of Cherry, including the Drachman Circle will be closed to traffic during these hours while a crane parks in the street to move the materials. The sidewalk on the north side of Drachman will remain open for pedestrians.

Demolition is complete and it’s time to start construction! The first step is to dig the holes for the foundation around the perimeter of the new addition. A large track hoe will dig 24 holes, 25 ft. deep for the caissons to placed and filled with concrete. Please be aware that there will be significant noise and vibration in the area during the drilling.

We are in the final months of construction on the new HSIB. The department of Medical Imaging has moved into the basement. Work is progressing on the other floors and furniture will be arriving soon. The Level 3 East accessible entrance to the Skaggs College of Pharmacy building will be closed for the duration of construction as of Wednesday, Sept. 19th. A new ramp along the south side of the building has been completed and will provide an accessible entrance throughout construction.
